24 May 2026

To mark Heroes of Ukraine Day, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics hosted an interdepartmental patriotic and educational event organized in collaboration with Artificial Intelligence Department  and the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Representing Artificial Intelligence Department at the event were the head of the department, Associate Professor Larisa Chala, and Senior Lecturer Oleksandr Stepin. Also participating in the event were students from the departments, the head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Professor Oleg Avrunin, Associate Professor Tetyana Nosova from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and other representatives of the university community.

Heroes of Ukraine Day is a day to honor the courage, self-sacrifice, and dedication of the people who fought and continue to fight for the independence, freedom, and future of our country.

A special highlight of the event was the remote participation of Lilia Averianova, an associate professor in the Department of Information and Communication Technologies—the mother of Hero of Ukraine Andriy Pilshchikov, known by the call sign “Juice.” During the meeting, she shared memories of her son’s life journey, his professional development, his service in the Ukrainian Air Force, and his contribution to defending Ukraine’s skies.
Andriy Pilshchikov was a military pilot in the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade and, from the very first days of the full-scale invasion, participated in the defense of Ukraine’s airspace and the defense of Kyiv. He flew combat missions in MiG-29 fighters, protecting Ukrainian infrastructure and countering enemy air attacks.
In addition to his military service, Andriy Pilshchikov became one of the voices of Ukrainian aviation on the international stage. He actively drew the attention of Western partners to the needs of Ukrainian pilots and the necessity of modernizing the Ukrainian Air Force, particularly regarding the transfer of F-16 fighter jets.
During the event, participants discussed the importance of personal example, professionalism, responsibility, and service to the state in the face of modern challenges.
Holding such meetings is an important component of national-patriotic education for students, preserving the memory of modern Heroes of Ukraine, and fostering respect for those who defend our country’s independence.
