Researchers at the AI Department recognised the importance and potential of artificial intelligence as early as the late 20th century, launching a corresponding educational programme in 1999. The curricula of the bachelor/specialist/master study in “Artificial Intelligence Systems” were developed with the support of the Finnish Academy of Sciences, which enabled NURE to launch a double-degree MSc program with Finnish and Dutch Universities. Additionally, since 2016, the Artificial Intelligence Department has been offering a master’s program in Data Science.

Internationalisation is a main concept laid down in the development strategy of the department from the beginning: from the curriculum developed within EU standards and approved by both Finnish and Ukrainian Ministries of Education, to European international projects aimed at the implementation of the procedures and developing tools for innovative quality assurance of higher education. International research projects of the Department establish a basis for research-based master’s programmes and provide technical equipment for modern departmental Labs hosting research and development of the AI tools applied in various fields.
