Three departments of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (NURE) — Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Intelligent Technologies and Systems — are launching a new Interdepartmental Laboratory of Transformational Artificial Intelligence.
On October 7, 2025, representatives of the three departments — Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Intelligent Technologies and Systems — held a seminar with the university leadership within the framework of the project “INITIATE: Fostering European Research and Innovation Activities through Stakeholder Cooperation and Institutional Reform.” During the seminar, they shared their project achievements and announced the establishment of the new Laboratory of Transformational Artificial Intelligence.
The creation of the Laboratory aligns with the project’s goals — implementing and disseminating a project-based approach to the development of research and innovation activities through broad stakeholder engagement and cooperation with the academic community. The initiative aims to facilitate the digital and green transition through technological and social projects.
The focus on transformational AI was chosen due to the promising potential of these technologies, which can drive fundamental and radical changes in society, the economy, and science — transforming processes, opening new opportunities, and solving global problems in ways that were previously impossible. The presentation justifying the relevance and directions of the Laboratory’s activities was delivered by Associate Professor Maria Holovian ko from the Artificial Intelligence Department.
During the seminar, participants also discussed expanding the applied research agenda within the green transition framework — in particular, addressing environmental pollution caused by ongoing hostilities near Kharkiv. Summarizing the outcomes, participants decided to establish the Laboratory, develop new applied research directions, and engage stakeholders focused on overcoming the consequences of military actions in the region and across the country.
The work under the INITIATE project contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 4: Quality Education
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
