On November 20–21, another coordination meeting was held for the ARISA project, whose results are being piloted by the Artificial Intelligence Department. The working meeting focused on summarizing the project activities of the previous six months and planning the tasks for the final half-year of the project. We also received positive feedback from the consortium regarding the quality of our project work and had the opportunity to once again align the development plans of our departmental study programmes, their content, as well as the department’s research and educational initiatives, with the AI development strategy recently approved by the European Commission.
First, the results of piloting the project-developed courses in the Bachelor’s programme Machine Learning Engineer were highly evaluated by our students, with the lowest score being 87 out of 100. This is the most successful result among all piloted programmes.
Second, our teachers shared their vision of the future development of AI and the skills that will be in demand in the near future. This contributed significantly to the creation of the AI Literacy Practices Report, an important outcome of the project’s collaboration with the European Commission’s AI Office. This contribution was discussed in detail during the presentation delivered by Giulia Carsaniga from the European Commission AI Office.
Third, among the main pillars presented for supporting the development of AI-related skills in accordance with the recently approved European AI strategy is the operation of an AI Entrepreneurial Lab, aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills in AI among young people. It is gratifying to note that work in this direction has been ongoing in the AI Department since 2006 within the European Virtual Venture programme through the co-delivery, together with French partners, of a course on launching international startups based on AI technologies.
