Oleksandr Yushchenko

Education and Career

• Graduated from the Faculty of Radiophysics of Kharkiv State University in 1981, majoring in Radiophysics and Electronics.

• In 1989, defended his dissertation and was awarded a Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics.

• From 1981 to 1996, worked in research units of Kharkiv State University, progressing from Research Engineer and Junior Researcher to Senior Researcher, Principal Investigator, and Chief Designer of research and development projects.

• From 1996 to 1998, pursued doctoral studies at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

• From 1997 to 2001, served as Senior and Lead Researcher at the O. Ya. Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, including leadership of competitive research projects.

• In 1999, was awarded the academic title of Senior Research Fellow.

• In 1999, joined NTU “KhPI” as Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems; served as Professor of the department from 2005 to 2025.

• Spearheaded the practical implementation and establishment of the "Telecommunication Systems and Networks" degree program within the Department of Information Systems at the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" (NTU "KhPI") in 2001. The project was realized upon the initiative of Vice-Rector Prof. V.O. Kravets (NTU "KhPI") and with the organizational support of Vice-Rector Academician of the NAS of Ukraine M.Yu. Ilchenko of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (NTUU "KPI").

• In 2017, was awarded the academic title of Professor by NTU “KhPI”.

• Since 2025, Professor-consultant at NTU “KhPI”.

• Since November 2025, Professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence, NURE.

Educational activity

Developed and taught more than 20 university-level courses in artificial intelligence, information technology, and telecommunications. Among the original courses he developed are “Theory of Creative Processes and Its Applications,” “Computational Methods for Analyzing the Information Space,” “Theoretical Foundations of Communication,” “Modeling the Impact of the Information Space on Societal Intelligence,” and “Theoretical Foundations of Bioethics.”

At NURE, teaches Distributed AI Systems and Data Mining Methods in Cybersecurity Systems, and contributes to the teaching of Multi-Agent Systems and Technologies. Author of the specialized course Artificial Intelligence in Information Security Applications.

Social activities

Academic and public engagement in support of democratic development, Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration, and national information security awareness through expert commentary, public lectures, media engagement, and scholarly outreach.

Professional scientific consulting and research cooperation with international IT and AI companies.

Research activities

Primary current research focus: Artificial  Intelligence, cognitive security, and AI-mediated  information influence; analysis of large-scale  cognitive and semantic manipulation in digital  environments; and human-AI cooperation,  including approaches to AI as a means of augmenting human cognitive capabilities (Second  Brain paradigm).

Additional research directions include the theory of  creative processes and computational creativity,  AI noogenesis and its evolutionary models,  including the Environment-Driven Method for AI  Noogenesis (EDM-AIN), knowledge-based  systems, AI-driven evolutionary engineering  design, micro- and millimeter-wave engineering for  telecommunications, AI ethics and bioethics, and  evolutionary theology. 

Experienced in leading competitive research and  R&D projects in microwave engineering,  telecommunications, information systems, and  Artificial Intelligence.

International activity / participation in international projects

• Manfred Wörner Fellow in Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence (2000), NATO Headquarters, Brussels.

• Participant in the Ukrainian–American Commission on Science and Technology under the «Kuchma–Gore» initiative.

• International peer reviewer and expert evaluator for academic journals, including journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, research organizations, and scientific foundations.

• Participant in approximately 55 international scientific and technical conferences.

State Awards

• Certificates of Appreciation for International Expertise and Peer Review (Multi-year recognition).

• IEEE Eastern Ukraine Joint Chapter Award for Outstanding Publication (1997).

• Inventor of the USSR Distinction for Engineering Innovations (1991).

• Military Volunteer Medal for Contribution to the Defense of Kharkiv (2022).

Publications and patents

Author and co-author of over 230 scientific and educational works, including more than 30 publications indexed in the international databases Scopus and Web of Science, over 70 sole-authored publications, and more than 40 works co-authored with students.

A significant part of the research is available via a public ResearchGate profile; however, systematic efforts are currently underway to harmonize and align bibliographic metadata, author identifiers, and citation data to ensure their seamless presentation within the global scientific landscape. 

A notable achievement was the publication of an official editorial correction in the international journal “AI & Society”(Springer Nature, 2026), which established the author’s conceptual priority regarding research on the manipulation of digital information flows and algorithmic threats posed by artificial intelligence (DOI: 10.1007/s00146-026-03234-z / https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00146-026-03234-z ).
