AI Department continues to expand opportunities for international collaboration

11 December 2022

The current competition for students among institutions of higher education becoming more intense due to decreasing the income and increasing of the expenditure. This requires not only to maintain attractiveness of universities at the previous level but also to increase the value of their proposal for students.

International cooperation in particular the EC ERASMUS+ program which funding the educational projects is becoming one of the most important factors contributing to the attraction of the extrabudgetary grant funds, in particular to provide students with opportunities to study in an international environment and gain life experience in European countries. Teachers get the opportunity to obtain experience of teaching in an international audience and enrich it through communication with their European colleagues. It is important that the number of mobile students and teachers has a positive effect on the place of our university in world rankings.

Continuing the experience of four-year cooperation the Spanish University of Jaen and the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, on the initiative of the Artificial Intelligence Department, signed the Agreement on Academic Mobility for the period until 2027. Due to such cooperation we can integrate into the common European educational space, become part of the globalized world and prepare our students to be competitive in global labor markets.

Despite the challenging conditions of the war with the Russian aggressor, we continue the academic year online. According to the curriculum, the first day of online defence of masters of the Artificial Intelligence Department who studied under the educational and scientific program “Artificial Intelligence Systems” (speciality 122 – Computer Science) took place. AI department’s teachers and students have a good experience presenting their masters’ theses via Google Meet. The defence of master’s theses in video conferencing was successful, without technical failures. The subjects of the submitted works are modern and exciting. To solve the tasks, graduates used modern architectures of deep neural networks, new approaches to developing web-recommender systems, natural language processing and even emotional intelligence. As before, our masters-graduates, continuing the tradition, take on challenging but enjoyable, complex tasks, successfully solve them and prove their high professional level.

On the first day of defence, we were pleased with the high level of submitted papers and excellent results. We wish our graduates new interesting creative tasks, health, success, and to all of us – a speedy victory to our native Ukraine and a peaceful sky!

Opportunities for mobility during the war for teachers and students

30 March 2022

The EC Erasmus+ programme has provided additional opportunities to support and protect Ukrainian university staff and students during russia’s war against Ukraine.

In particular, our long-time mobility partner the Spanish University of Jaen has provided additional places for students and faculty. Four students have already received invitations to the current semester.

Such redistribution of the places became possible due to the EC decision to transfer to Ukraine the places that were previously designated for RF and RB. Also, some Georgian universities have voluntarily given up their mobility to Ukrainian colleagues.

30.03.2022 NEO in Ukraine held a webinar on new opportunities and features of implementating mobility projects under martial law. In addition to the existing interinstitutional agreements on academic mobility students and teachers can look for studying, teaching and internship opportunities in EU universities through specially created resources:

https://ukraine.dev.uni-foundation.eu/
https://erudera.com/resources/list-of-universities-helping-ukrainian-students/

https://education.ec.europa.eu/study-in-europe/countries (ref. Erasmus+  study opportunities of each country)

https://www.studyineurope.eu/

All information on EU support for education and youth during martial law can be found on the website of NEO in Ukraine https://erasmusplus.org.ua/novyny/4148-pidtrymka-u-sferi-osvity-ukrainy-yevropeiskym-soiuzom.html

In particular, the rules of departure of students or male employees during martial law is regulated by the relevant  Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of 12.03.2022 №264,  explanation of the State Border Guard Service.

The main theses on the implementing the projects in these extremely difficult circumstances: reducing bureaucracy in competition and other procedures in Ukrainian universities, comprehensive promotion of mobility and initiative mobility (if students and academicians find opportunities on their own) to create favorable current conditions to facilitate further return to Ukraine, as well ad visa facilitation by EU countries.

Warning for students: Students who have taken advantage of the Erasmus+ Academic Mobility Programme must return to their home university to continue their studies (obtaining a diploma). In case of non-return, students must return the received mobility grant.

Warning for HEI: The university must repay the mobility grant received by the student in case of non-recognition of ECTS credits obtained by student in a result of credit mobility.

Horizon Europe will provide special opportunities for Ukrainian researchers within Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. Details of novelties will be published soon on the program’s website https://marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/news/eu-stands-with-ukrainian-researchers.
