April 10, 2025, the Artificial Intelligence Department of the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics hosted another scientific seminar dedicated to the public presentation of the dissertation results by Roman Mykolaiovych Lavrynenko.
Topic and Scientific Novelty
The candidate presented research on the topic:
“Methods of Intelligent Time Series Analysis with Properties of Fractional Brownian Motion,”
submitted for obtaining the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in specialty 122 “Computer Science.”
The scientific advisor is PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor of the AI Department — Nataliia Volodymyrivna Riabova.
During the presentation, Roman Lavrynenko раскрыed the essence of five developed and improved methods. Particular attention was given to:
A differentiable neural network layer HurstEE for estimating the Hurst exponent
A modification of the Hosking method for generating time series continuations
An ensemble method for correcting systematic bias in small-sample estimates
Discussion and Expert Evaluation
The seminar was chaired by the Head of the AI Department,
PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor — Larysa Ernestivna Chala,
with the participation of 21 researchers from the department and invited leading specialists from other universities.
Department experts, PhD, Associate Professors Vadym Leonidovych Sherhin and Oleksandra Valeriivna Vitko, noted the high level of scientific maturity of the candidate. In particular, they emphasized:
The relevance of the work in the context of Explainable AI
