Three Departments — Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Intelligent Technologies and Systems — Opened a New Interdepartmental Transformative AI Lab.

By Order No. 412 of November 4, 2025, the decision of the University Academic Council to establish the AI Dep-based Research Laboratory of ‘Transformative Artificial Intelligence’ was enacted within implementing the project “INITIATE: Fostering European Research and Innovation through Stakeholder Collaboration and Institutional Reform”.
This decision was preceded by research and an analysis of stakeholder surveys regarding ways of mutually beneficial cooperation between the university and companies in the fields of green and digital transition, aimed at creating social innovations and an effective innovation-research ecosystem that will unite resources and scale the results of representatives of higher education, industry, and the leadership of the city and region.

On October 7, 2025, representatives from three departments — Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Intelligent Technologies and Systems — held a seminar with the university’s managers where showcased the project progress and announced the opening of a new Transformative AI Lab aimed at implementing and promoting a project-based approach to developing research and innovation activities through the broad involvement of stakeholders in collaboration with the academic community to facilitate digital and green transitions through technological and social initiatives.

The focus area of the new laboratory was chosen due to the promising potential of transformative AI technologies, which can bring about fundamental and radical changes in society, the economy, and science — transforming processes, unlocking new opportunities, and addressing global challenges in ways that were previously impossible. Maria Golovianko, Associate Professor in the AI Department, delivered a presentation highlighting the relevance and significance of the future laboratory’s areas of activity.

The work carried out under the INITIATE project contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 4 – Quality Education, Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, Goal 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
